Taliban’s scary new order for airlines in Afghanistan: The Taliban regime has issued a new order that forces airlines to stop women from boarding flights unless they are accompanied by a male relative.
Aviation officials from two of Afghanistan’s airlines confirmed they had received a letter from a senior Taliban official, ordering them to stop issuing tickets to solo women.
The Taliban regime has claimed it had not ordered airlines to bar female solo travelers but multiple airline officials and travel agents in Afghanistan have confirmed the change.
The Taliban had already banned inter-city road trips for women traveling alone, but until now they were free to take flights.
The latest restriction on women follows the shutdown of all girls’ secondary schools just hours after they were allowed to reopen for the first time since August last year.
The Taliban had promised a more lenient interpretation of Islamist rule, but since August they have reintroduced a plethora of restrictions on women and girls.
