Radhamani: The story of a 71-year-old woman who drives a heavy vehicle: A grandmother at 71, Radhamani Amma drives and hold driving licenses for 11 types of vehicles, including JCB, excavators, road rollers, and cranes. In 1978, Radhamani’s husband TV Lal opened a driving school and suggested. that his wife learn the art of driving. It was here that Radhamani developed a passion for driving. In those days, only a few women had an interest in learning to drive.

Encouraged by her husband, Radhamani First learnt how to drive a bus and a lorry. soon, she was taking to the wheel of their heavy vehicles like cranes, trailers, forklift, road rollers, and JCB, acquiring the license to drive each of them.

” Back then, people were very curious and surprised to see a woman driving a heavy vehicle.” But this never stopped the enterprising woman from doing what she loved. In 2004, Radhamani took over the driving school to support her family after losing her husband in a tragic accident. Today, ‘Mani Amma’ – as she is fondly called- is the only woman in India. to hold a license for 11 vehicles at the age of 71.

But she isn’t done yet. It is my great dream to operate a tower crane. Interestingly, Radhamani is still a student at the age of 71. she is doing a diploma course in mechanical engineering at kalamassery polytechnic. At the same time, shes is a teacher for several young women. who find a lot of job opportunities abroad if they learn how to drive heavy vehicles. Kudos to her for blazing a trail for other women to follow.
